At No.23, we get a little more time to spend with the things we love.
Reading, food and drink, or mind relaxing activities often feature in our holiday downtime activities.
They’re a mix of mostly Danish products, Danish design, English products, people and brands.
Here are some of our delighters. You'll find a few of them at the Summerhouse.
Gränsfors Bruk
At the Danish Summerhouse, we have a few axes. Chopping wood is a fairly new thing for us but using the Gränsfors splitting axe has been a real pleasure. Over more than 100 years, Gränsfors Bruks has built a business based around handcrafted axes and axe expertise, with a focus on quality and environmental responsibility.
Do book co.
The Do Book Company is an independent publishing house based in Shoreditch, London. We're big fans of the Do Lectures and Do book Co. produce a series of inspirational guidebooks in print, digital and audiobook formats written by speakers from the annual event held in West Wales.
CABIN porn
Zach Klein is best known for co-founding and designing Vimeo, but we love him more for creating the Cabin Porn phenomenon. If you are looking for inspiration for your own cabin or just taking a trip to escape for a few minutes the Cabin Porn book and website can take you to a simpler world. You'll find a copy at No.23.
La cabra coffee
Espen Piper opened up La Cabra in Aarhus just after our move to Denmark in 2013. That was fortunate. Since then he has grown La Cabra into a truly global coffee brand coming out of "the smallest city in the world".
Norwegian Wood
Norwegian Wood provides useful advice on the rustic hows and whys of taking care of your heating needs, but it’s also a thoughtful attempt to understand man’s age-old predilection for stacking wood.
Britta Hansesgaard
Britta Hansesgaard creates beautiful, timeless ceramics from her workshop in Malling, just south of our Aarhus base. A graduate of Central Saint Martin's in London, her work can be found at the Michelin starred restaurant Frederikshoj Kro and on sale through her website.
Skandinavisk
Skandinavisk is a certified B Corp founded by Englishman Shaun Russell in 2013. From a base in Copenhagen, Skandinavisk creates subtly refined nature-inspired scents centred on the Scandinavian approach to life. You will find their candles dotted around the summerhouse.
Feasts & Fables
Barrie & JoJo Thomson built their High Street Delicatessen to support the local and sustainable. Now they’re roaming, writing and always being curious. They send out a newsletter at 6 pm sharp every Sunday. It’s great. You’ll find some of their notebooks at No.23. and you find them on Instagram.
Tom Frost
Tom Frost is a printmaker living and working in Carmarthenshire, South Wales. We particularly love his vintage-inspired School Charts. There's something reminiscent of Edward Bawden and 1930's and 1950’s printmakers in his work. Find him on Instagram.
No Place Like Home
A photographic portrait of the local surfing community in the Thy area of North Jutland by photographer Fredrik Clement. Shot entirely on film over two years, the book showcases the relationship between surfers and the sea in a most beautiful way.
You’ll find a copy on the shelves at No.23.
Hannah Cousins
Hannah is a British printmaker and illustrator currently based in Los Angeles. Her first book, Coastline, a linocut and letterpress love-letter to the California coast, was published by Nomad Letterpress in 2019.
