Kunsten | Aalborg Museum of Art

The modern art museum Kunsten in Aalborg is a 50-minute drive south of The Danish Summerhouse. Designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, assisted by his wife, Elissa Aalto and Jean-Jacques Baruël, the building was completed in 1972. It's the only museum building outside Finland designed by Aalto.

During the restoration work in 2016, 317 tons of white Italian marble were used to refurbish the existing museum and create a new exhibition gallery, teaching rooms, café and a shop with some lovely art and design-inspired books and gifts. There's also a sculpture park with a large terrace to enjoy in the summer.

The museum houses a collection of over 4000 works of art, mostly post-1900, by Danish and foreign artists. The exhibition areas include five galleries, a permanent collection space and several unique exhibition areas.

It's a special place to visit when the weather is not so great in the autumn or you need a break from the hot summer sun! 🎨
