Glenholm Vingård

Glenholm Vingård, 20 minutes north of the summerhouse on the road to Løgstor, is a three-generation, family-run vineyard focused on community participation and co-ownership. The vineyard is set in a beautiful location, high above the Limfjord, and the area's terroir, a porous yellow clay with lots of chalk, flint, sand and gravel, is ideal for producing a particular style of Danish wine. There's a great cafe, wine shop, and guesthouse on-site, and it’s well worth a visit when you come and stay at the house.

The first vines, brought from England, were planted on site in 1993, and from 1994 to 1997, the vineyard planted and tested 15 vine varieties. In 2006, Glenholm was registered as the first commercial vineyard in North Jutland. The vineyard now produces around 7000 bottles annually; the low yields on the vines and the suitable microclimate mean that the grapes achieve a high level of maturity with a well-developed taste and aroma.

The wine harvest takes place in October, and as the grapes ripen at different times, they are harvested in 4-5 rounds. The process is guided by the weather and the right time to pick. The grapes are picked, processed and earmarked for specific wines, and fermentation starts.

Community is part of Glenholm's DNA. They pioneered a unique "co-grower" concept, where members could share the opportunity to grow wine in the open with others who also wanted to start a journey in viticulture (cultivating and harvesting grapes). Later came a joint vinification project where expensive production equipment and knowledge could be shared across producers. Finally, a cooperative concept was introduced. Non-voting shares can be purchased to receive discounts on wine, food, and accommodation, participate in the wine harvest, share free tours and tastings with friends, and join in free communal meals.🍷
