Sommerhus Exhibiton | Utzon Center Aalborg

Over Easter, we took a trip to the Utzon Center in Aalborg; it's a 55-minute drive northeast of the house. Until January 2022, the exhibition 'Sommerhus' asks some timely questions about the future of the summerhouse in Denmark.

"Holiday homes are an important chapter in the history of Danish culture. But we are in danger of losing the diversity, modesty and imagination, which for 100 years have been among the most distinguished aspects of the Danish holiday home."

The exhibition showcases the Bjarke Ingels Group designed Klein A45, a sustainable, but pricey contemporary take on a summerhouse/cabin with some lovely interior fittings. It also features the annexe designed by Vilhelm Wohlert for Danish physicist Niels Bohr which has become something of a cult house among Modernist holiday home enthusiasts.

Can future development of this vital part of Danish Culture respect the environment and its surroundings responsibly and sustainably whilst maintaining its soul?

Come visit and find out for yourself. It's an excellent exhibition. 🏡
